Campbelltown Memorial Oval (CMO) Sporting Hub is the culmination of an extensive stakeholder consultation process, and celebrates the coming together of various sporting and community stakeholders into a single shared facility. Club pride, heritage and tradition is the unifying thread that connects these disparate groups. Thus the architecture was envisioned as a flexible exhibition space; allowing for a contemporary digital curation of the collective shared memories and triumphs to be dynamically recorded and inscribed into the building fabric. This central space, conceived as the ‘Exhibition Street’, is articulated by grand architectural gestures at the main entry, and guides users along an axis through to the various functional spaces of the double level sporting facility, before finally turning a corner, and revealing a vista of the oval and its stunning backdrop. Flexibility has also been prioritised throughout the building’s planning. From the design of the unisex home and away change facilities (complying with regional sporting code standards), to the arrangement of the community function halls, and upstairs commercial kitchen and bar servicing an external terrace with panoramic views across the playing field, CMO is a state of the art home for the community to proudly celebrate the next chapter.
