In a move toward the future, Hames Sharley announced two new appointments this month, which will bring world-class leadership in innovation and sustainability to its expanding Adelaide and Sydney studios.

A leader in the Australian green building movement, Darren Bilsborough, will take on the role of Studio Director in Adelaide; while Alex York, whose previous experience includes being the project architect for the redevelopment of Ascot Racecourse in the UK, will bring international architecture and planning experience to his role as Sydney’s Studio Leader.

Hames Sharley, Executive Chairman and founder William Hames said he is delighted by the new appointments, which are evidence of the practice’s commitment to delivering unique solutions to its clients through innovative, sustainable, future thinking.

“With a diverse background traversing numerous areas of expertise within the built environment and the commercial property industry, Darren has a wealth of experience at a senior leadership level in national and international consultancy, including his previous role directing one of Australia’s largest engineering firms,” Mr Hames said.

“Darren is highly regarded for his understanding of the economics of sustainability and creating competitive advantage in the development of city precincts and commercial buildings.”

Former Adjunct Professor of Sustainability at Curtin University in WA, Darren is widely acknowledged as one of the founding fathers of the green building movement in Australia and said he is looking forward to bringing his passion for sustainability to the Hames Sharley team.

“Hames Sharley supports my belief that the provision of professional services within the built environment is ripe for disruption,” Mr Bilsborough said.

“I bring to the role the ability to look beyond the traditional paradigm, as Hames Sharley continues to strive and search for new ways of delivering unique, sustainable, future driven solutions to its clients.”

Mr Hames said that Alex York’s appointment comes at an exciting time in Hames Sharley’s growth within the NSW market.

“Since emigrating to Australia from the UK in 2006, Alex has worked on a number of significant projects, developing and planning aspirational, innovative and commercially astute built responses,” he said.

“Alex will provide significant experience in strategic planning and complex negotiations to maximise the commercial value-add to clients across a number of sectors and disciplines in the NSW market including Sport and Recreation, Commercial, Residential, Retail and Mixed Use.

“Both Darren and Alex will cement Hames Sharley’s reputation as a forward-thinking, future driven strategic partner for our clients.”
