There are two kinds of people in the world: those who believe chocolate is the best thing ever, and those who are wrong.
You know. Broadly speaking…
But it’s safe to say that there won’t be too many who will be upset to learn that July 7 is World Chocolate Day. As if we need an excuse to celebrate it. It’s just so versatile – not only does it taste amazing and release endorphins that flat out make you happier, you can do all sorts of other things with it too.
Like build houses.
We’re not talking miniatures, either (although you’ve got to love an Empire State Building made from chocolate, complete with King Kong). US cocoa corporation Hershey’s makes a new house out of chocolate every year, a charity event supported by dozens of employees who help in the construction. And back in 2017, Italian architecture firm Carlo Ratti Associati put together an edible building for a theme park in Bologna dedicated to Italian cuisine. Visitors were allowed to help themselves to the 30,000 chocolates used to build the walls.
All that pales by comparison to the work of Jean-Luc Decluzeau, however. It used to be that houses in the woods made entirely out of tasty treats were the exclusive province of suspicious-looking old women in fairy tales, but thanks to the master chocolatier such a building exists for the use of anyone keen enough to experience it. Made entirely out of chocolate products in 2018, the cottage was made available to rent and was fully capable of sleeping sweet-toothed tourists.
Maybe one day he’ll take on something bigger. Blocks of chocolate, anyone?
