Highly regarded leader and local South Australian design professional, Madeleine Steele, has recently been appointed to lead Hames Sharley’s Adelaide studio, further cementing the organisation’s position locally as one of Australia’s leading multi-disciplinary design consultancies.
Madeleine was appointed in April 2023 as Hames Sharley’s South Australian Studio Leader and takes up her new station after playing a senior role in Hames Sharley’s contribution to the state.
Caillin Howard, Hames Sharley Managing Director, said the key appointment was made at an important time for Hames Sharley, the built industry and the broader South Australian community.
“Arguably, there’s never been a better time to co-create a new, brighter future for South Australia, and Madeleine is the right leader to help support that here at Hames Sharley.
“Right now, South Australians have an opportunity to create a future that brings people together, maximises our quality of life and regeneratively gives back to the planet that asks for so little.
“Think recent local advancements in hydrogen energy, technology advancements globally in a post-COVID world and other evolutionary changes from within and outside of South Australia – these developments can create a cleaner, more sustainable world.
“Madeleine is a leader who seeks out collaboration and understands the value of true innovation and bringing together a diverse community that is bound by a common challenge or goal.
“By combining the opportunity around us here in South Australia and more broadly, coupled with the expertise of Madeleine’s leadership, the future is bright,” he said.
Madeleine said that her appointment was both a privilege and a long-term dream being realised.
“I was born and raised in Adelaide’s southern suburbs before moving to the beautiful Tea Tree Gully – I’m a passionate local who is excited by what we have to offer our own, as well as Australia and the world.
“I have wanted to work in architecture from a very young age for the sole purpose of giving back to the community I love in a tangible way that can really make a difference.
“This latest role allows me to play an even greater role in shaping the future of our amazing city and state, as well as empowering our people at Hames Sharley, who are just as passionate as I am.
“The thing I love more than ever about Adelaide is our confidence in what we have to offer and our potential – we believe in ourselves and reach for the possible, not the probable.
“I’ve had so many great experiences in my life thanks to Adelaide and Hames Sharley - most recently, I married my partner in the Adelaide Hills, plus finished up the season with the Central Districts Football Club in their women’s development program.
“I can’t wait to see what comes next,” she said.
