Hames Sharley was the recipient of two commendations for design innovation and creativity at the recent awards for the Design Institute of Australia’s WA Chapter.

In the Built Environment – Corporate category, the end-of-trip facilities upgrade at 240 St Georges Terrace was commended for Excellence in Interior Design, with Hames Sharley Senior Associate Jessika Hames in attendance to receive the accolade.

Representing a successful addition to tenant wellness in a highly competitive market, the daring design of the 240 St Georges Terrace offering addresses exacting functional needs through rigorous zoning, hard thresholds and unique lighting. Its true success, however, has been the dramatic shift in tenanted space, the facility already generating increased use and encouraging greater health and wellbeing for all its occupants.

Hames Sharley’s second success was in the Built Environment – Residential Care category, with a commendation for ASPIRE by Stockland, Calleya.

The Calleya Clubhouse is a contemporary space that expresses the personality of the retirement village of which it is a part. Representing the “heart” of the community, it is a meeting place where residents can socialise, access health and wellbeing facilities, and engage with the Village Manager. It is essentially a natural extension of the residents’ own homes, the fluidity between the internal and external environments allowing individuals and groups to connect, create, and curate their own interests.

“Our objective was to facilitate a healthy, vibrant community and improve the quality of life for residents,” says Principal Interior Designer Charlotte Kennedy, who received the honour on the night. “The clubhouse responds to the changing mobility, vision and dexterity of residents aged between 70 and 90. It met the needs of the community and residents from day one and will evolve as the village ages.”
