For the second year running, a Hames Sharley project has taken out the top award at the 2024 UDIA WA Awards for Excellence.
Curtin Heritage Living’s Cottesloe Redevelopment was not only named the best ‘Seniors Living’ project, but also received the coveted ‘Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence’, which recognises the best project in WA.
“This is a rare honour for a seniors living project, and highlights the exceptional collaboration of the project team to deliver a world-class outcome that elevates quality of life for its residents and the surrounding community,” said Hames Sharley project lead Gary Mackintosh.
Hames Sharley served as the detailed design, construction and delivery architect alongside concept design architect Grounds Kent Architects. The collaboration resulted in a built environment outcome that celebrates the existing heritage buildings, utilising them to support a range of activities that foster community engagement and improve quality of life for residents.
Following the 2023 Russel Perry win of Blackburne’s ONE Subiaco development, the 2024 win reinforces Hames Sharley’s ability to combine urban design, architecture and interior design to deliver a holistic design outcome that responds thoughtfully to its context for the benefit of individual users and wider communities.
The recognition for Hames Sharley projects kept coming throughout the evening, as TL Robertson Library at Curtin University (designed by Hames Sharley and Schmidt Hammer Lassen architects in association) received the award for ‘Social & Community Infrastructure’, for a refurbishment that successfully reimagined the library as a vibrant hub for the campus community.
East Village by Blackburne was also awarded the ‘Apartments (Mid Rise)’ category, for its outstanding contribution to realising the vision of the mixed-use Karrinyup Shopping Centre precinct, beautifully blending the transition between the retail centre with the surrounding low-density residential housing.
We’re incredibly honoured to have played a role in each of these project teams, working alongside brilliant clients, consultants and collaborators to create built environment outcomes that uplift their communities and enrich everyday life for the people who use them.
