The University of Queensland Oral Health Centre

Hames Sharley, in association with Cox Rayner, designed the new $120 million Oral Health Centre (OHC) for the University of Queensland. Using the latest in both simulation techniques and state-of-the-art facilities for the treatment of patients, the OHC is Australia’s largest and most advanced tertiary oral health facility, combining research, education, training, and specialist expertise in patient care.

The Oral Health Centre teaching facilities include clinical simulation areas, pre-clinical laboratories, lecture/seminar rooms and research laboratories. Facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate education include some 187 dental chairs distributed across 11 clinics, covering general practice dentistry, oral rehabilitation, paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, oral radiology, oral medicine, periodontics, endodontics, special needs dentistry and other specialist services, as well as a state-of-the-art imaging centre, a learning centre and a library. Building on the experience gained on the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia, Hames Sharley was able to provide both clients and partners with the knowledge to create a facility that is a benchmark for oral health training facilities in Australia and internationally.Since

its completion, the University of Queensland Oral Health Centre has gone on to become Australia’s most awarded project at the 2016 National Australian Architect Institute Awards as well as gain recognition across a number of other national and international bodies awards.
