Alkimos Central Master Plan and Guidelines

Hames Sharley developed the Alkimos Central Master Plan as a transit-oriented development, incorporating a mix of civic, residential, retail, and commercial spaces around a below-ground railway station. The project exemplifies the seamless collaboration between our urban design, planning, and architecture teams, resulting in fast and accurate outcomes when testing typologies for mixed-use projects.

The scope of our work encompassed various master plan outputs, including context diagrams, street and lot layouts, built form controls, staging plans, and detailed 3D modelling. By integrating inputs from landscape architects UDLA, we demonstrated our understanding of the nuances associated with different development types and their relationship to the surrounding streetscape. For Alkimos Central, we devised nine interface types that carefully integrated development with the public domain, creating a harmonious ‘people first’ urban environment. Moreover, we introduced an innovative approach by setting higher-than-usual deep soil and tree canopy measures, which were then translated into specific and thoroughly tested tree targets for individual development sites. This forward-thinking strategy ensures a greener and more environmentally sustainable development, enhancing the overall appeal and liveability of the area.

Through this project, Hames Sharley showcased our multidisciplinary expertise under one roof. Our collaborative approach delivered practical and reliable built form controls for future land owners to work with, while resulting in high-quality design outcomes for the precinct that will benefit the communities who use Alkimos for generations to come.
